    Week of April 7th – April 11th:

    Monday: During our morning meeting, we did our number card greeting. We labeled two picture cards by segmenting the sounds to write them. During phonics, we practiced writing words with the digraph “sh” on our dry erase boards. We also wrote a sentence together. During reader’s workshop, we learned how “picture power” can help us to understand more of the story as we are reading. We read Nick and the Fossil together. During writer’s workshop, we learned about “How To” writing and taught each other how to draw animals from shapes. During math, we used a number path to help compare teen numbers. During positivity project time, we discussed “fairness”. We chose our next purposeful play spots.                                                

    Tuesday: During our morning meeting, we did our number card greeting. We had Library Time. We listened to the story, Dragon Loves Tacos. During phonics, we practiced blending sounds to read words. During math, we practiced writing and recognizing teen numbers from 11-15. We had a race to see which number was rolled the most on our ten frame cubes. During writer’s workshop, we practiced teaching others how to make things with our building blocks. We gave directions using the words, first, next, then and last. During positivity time, we continued to discuss “fairness” and treating others the way we want to be treated.  We chose our new purposeful play spots.

    Wednesday: During our morning meeting, we did our number card greeting. We made a list of words with the “ad” word part, using magnetic letters. (sad, mad, had, bad, glad) During phonics, we took a quiz on blending to read words and segmenting to write words. We listened to the story, Pig’s Egg. We made predictions as we read. During reader’s workshop, we learned to use picture power to help us think about the story elements; “who the characters are, where they are, and what they did.” We reread Nick and the Fossil. During writer’s workshop, we used guided play to help oral rehearse the steps for “How To” writing. We practiced making a snowman together out of playdough and then each student made their own objects from playdough and taught someone else how to make it. We had extra outdoor recess today as a reward for having the most bluebird tickets in Kindergarten for the month of March! We listened to the story, The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf. We chose our next purposeful play spots.

    Thursday:  During our morning meeting, we did our number card greeting. We played “Guess My Rule” with our snap word cards. During phonics, we introduced a new digraph, “th”. We blended sounds to read words. We learned a new snap word, “for”. During writer’s workshop, we listened to a story, How To Read a Story. We looked for the features of “How To” writing while reading this book. During reader’s workshop, we learned that readers use pictures and words to predict what will happen next in a story. We practiced making predictions in the story, Pug. Then we read independently and with our reading partners. During math, we practiced counting objects and identifying the teen numbers from 11-20. We chose our next purposeful play spots.

    Friday: During our morning meeting, we did our number card greeting.  We played “I Spy a Snap Word”.  Our sixth grade buddies visited us this morning. We played snap word Bingo with them. We enjoyed a little snack and we read some books with our buddies. During math, we played teen number Bingo. During positivity time, we continued to discuss “fairness”. We attended an assembly with The Harlem Wizards.  We chose our next purposeful play spots. Report cards were sent home today in your child’s folder.

     

    Reminders: Please clean out your child’s folder each evening and return it to school the next day.

    *Spring Break – No school – April 14th – 22nd.

    Please return the empty, signed report card envelope after spring break- you may keep the contents inside.
