• Donald L. Lockwood Memorial Scholarship

    The Donald L. Lockwood Scholarship Was Established in March 1974 in Recognition of the Numerous Contributions Donald L. Lockwood Made to the Music Students and Staff of the Wappingers Central School District.  Donald L. Lockwood Shared His Musical Talents with Students As a Music Teacher for 12 Years.  He Led the Music Staff As District Department Head for 14 Years Before His Retirement in 1972.  During His Tenure with the District, the Music Staff Grew from 10 to 32 and the Music Education Program Became One of the Best in the State.  Following His Retirement, Until His Untimely Death on November 27, 1992, He Was Active As a Member of the Theater Organ Society in New York City, the New Hackensack Reformed Church, and As a Board Member of the Grinnell Library of Wappingers Falls, NY.

     

    The Donald L. Lockwood Scholarship Is to Be Awarded to a Graduating High School Seniors Planning to Major in Music Education at an Accredited College.

     

    Requirements

     

    1.   The Recipient Will Be a Member of the Graduating Class of John Jay or Roy C. Ketcham High School.

     

    2.   The Scholarship Is Open to All Music Students

     

    3.   The Recipient Will Have Demonstrated a High Degree of Accomplishment in Performance, Theory or Composition.

     

    4.   The Recipient Will Show Evidence That He or She Will Bring Credit to the Teaching Profession and More Specifically to the Cause of Music Education.

     

    5.   The Recipient Will Have Demonstrated Loyalty, Responsibility, Dependability, and Dedication to Their School’s Music Program.

             

    6.  Recipients Must Attend the Scholarship Presentation Concert.

    Harvey S. Lederstein Memorial Scholarship

    The “Harvey S. Lederstein Memorial Scholarship Fund” Was Established in March 1973, in Memory of Mr. Harvey S. Lederstein, Who Was Director of Bands at Roy C. Ketcham High School from 1961 Until 1972.  He Was Then Appointed to the Position of Music Department Head in the Wappingers Central School District, a Position He Held from August 1972 Until His Untimely Death on March 8th, 1973.  During His Tenure in Wappingers He Had a Profound Influence on the Many Students Who Were Fortunate to Have Had Him As Their Teacher, Band Director and Friend. In Light of Mr. Lederstein’s Considerable Influence on Music Education in the Wappingers Central School District, a Scholarship Fund Was Established.  It Is Used to Encourage Music Students’ Participation in Summer Music Programs.

     

    Requirements:

     

    1. Recipients Must Be Attending High School in the Wappingers Central School District
    2. and Be in Grades 9, 10 or 11.

                           

     2. Recipients Must Be Active Members of One or More Performing

     Organizations of Their School Music Department.

     

     3. Recipients Must Have Demonstrated Qualities of Loyalty, Responsibility,  Dependability, and Dedication to Their School Performing Organization(S),  Should Possess High Integrity, and Exhibit Such Qualities As Valued by Harvey S. Lederstein.

     

      4. Recipients Must Be Recommended by One or More Wappingers Central School District Teachers.

     

      5.  Recipients must Attend the Scholarship Presentation Concert.

     

     Students Who Have Received the Lederstein Scholarship in a Previous Year Are Not Eligible to Receive the Scholarship Again.
