NY STATE REQUIREMENT!
For students entering 12th grade, in September, NY State Dept of Health requires these students to be fully vaccinated against meningococcal disease. Your child will not be able to remain in school without this vaccine. Please contact your child's health care provider in order to receive further information and arrange for any required immunizations. Please forward a copy of your child's updated immunization records to the Health Office.
About the Vaccine:
• It’s not a new vaccine. It’s been recommended for a decade.
• Most parents already choose to vaccinate their children at age 11.
• The 2nd dose of the vaccine will be required for school entry as of September. (Vaccine to be given on or after the child's 16th birthday)
About Meningococcal Disease:
• It causes bacterial meningitis and other serious diseases.
• Teens and young adults are at greater risk.
• It comes on quickly and without warning.
• Its symptoms are similar to the flu.
• Every case of this disease can result in death or long-term disability. Check with your doctor.
