    The development of student intellectual ability, desirable traits of character and qualities of leadership are all achievements the school system desires to encourage and foster.  In recognition of outstanding student achievement far in excess of the minimum requirements, the Board of Education supports academic recognition programs.  These programs may include High Academic Excellence, Academic Excellence, honor societies, and special awards.

     

    HIGH ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE -  JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

    High Academic Excellence in junior and senior high school includes the names of students who have an average of 91 or above including physical education. No student with an average of less than 80 in English, Social Studies, Mathematics or Science will be considered.  Students may not have any failures or incompletes, including physical education, to be eligible for High Academic Excellence.

     

    ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE - JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

    Academic Excellence in junior and senior high school includes the names of students who have an average of 85 to 90, including physical education. No student with an average of less than 75 in English, Social Studies, Mathematics or Science will be considered.Students may not have any failures or incompletes, including physical education, to be eligible for Academic Excellence.

    Marking Period Vertical Average Calculation for Junior High-

    Simple average divided by the number of classes.

     

    *The overall quarterly average is rounded up on the report card. However, Academic Excellence is based on the exact calculated average. For example, a report card may show an overall average of 85. However, when calculated it may be an 84.999.
