Science 8 Physical Science Mrs. McIntyre
Welcome to Science 8. This is an expectation letter. Please read, sign, and keep a copy for yourself. Also, have your parents read, sign, and return a copy so everyone is aware of all expectations I have for this upcoming year.
1. Each student needs the following supplies for science class: Pencils, pens, spiral notebook, assignment pad, folder for worksheets that can be stored in a binder, and a calculator ( 4 function is fine).
2. Students must bring the notebook to class each day. Textbooks must be covered and kept at home unless assigned to bring in.
3. Notes are to be taken in pen. Labs and charts should be done in pencil. Notebooks will be graded at the end of each chapter of study and will count as a test grade.
4. Homework will be assigned regularly (at least four times per week). Homework serves both as a review of science work covered in class and a practice session for the next day’s activity. Homework will count as 10% of you science grade.
5. Quizzes will be given frequently. Unit/chapter tests will be given at the completion of each unit/chapter of study. These tests will be announced at least one week in advance.
6. To ask a question or answer one, please raise your hand and wait to be recognized. Do not shout out answers.
7. Remain seated unless you have permission to move. The bathroom should be used before and after class.
8. Be courteous to your classmate and teacher at all times. Ridiculing another classmate is uncalled for and will not be tolerated.
9. Horseplay will not be tolerated. You are in a lab setting and the classroom must be treated that way at all times! You are young adults and your behavior in class is expected to be that of young adults!
10. Littering of desks/tables, and classroom is prohibited. If you make a mess, you must clean it up. All laboratory supplies must be cleaned up before you leave the classroom.
11. For personal safety, eating, drinking and snaking is prohibited in the classroom because it is a lab setting.
12. Come to class prepared and on time. Three times late equals a call home and a referral.
13. Classroom discipline goes as follows: Two warnings will be given, upon the third warning you will receive a call home. If the problem persists detention will be given and referral written.
14. Your grades will be calculated as follows: 65% test and quiz grades, 25% class work, labs and 10% homework.
15. Any student having difficult in science should set up an appointment to come in after school or during a free period for extra help.
16. Throughout the school year we will be watching some or all of the following movies: Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, Wall E, Ice age 1,2,3 or 4 Day after tomorrow, Twister, and/or Apollo 13.
If any questions arise please feel free to email me at Christine.mcintyre@wcsdny.org or call Van Wyck any time at 227-1700 ext. 20151.
