Thank you to our community for the support of this incredible event. We love when our seniors return to RCK to enjoy an afternoon of great food, great music, friends, dancing and fun! A huge thanks for event organizer Darlene Seckler, Lauren Palmer and all those who volunteered. Ketcham is such a wonderful community!

    RCK Annual Veterans Ceremony

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff, administrators and local dignitaries joined with members of American Legion Post 427 for the annual RCK Veterans Ceremony on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.

"Freedom isn't free," said Post Commander Raymond Chase, who called on the audience to remember the importance of the day. He chose five RCK students to receive certificates for the event and also challenged them to spend the next year working to do things to deserve that freedom. "Our country is only one generation away from losing its freedom."

The Ketcham Keynotes performed and Echo Taps was played by trumpeters Molly Hormel and Carl Munoz in the touching tribute to fallen servicemembers. Seniors Ian Schweiger and Samuel Petramale spoke about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is in its 100th year of existence, and the importance of this historic site and how it affects our history and future.

“We are honored to celebrate our local veterans today and every day," said RCK Principal David Seipp. "We know the sacrifice they have made for us and our respect and gratitude for those who fought for our freedom and continue to fight for it is tremendous."

The event was held at the RCK monument, which includes a memorial to area Veterans killed in action. RCK students helped line the entrance to the school with American flags to commemorate the day. RCK PTSA, Interact Club, National Honor Society and Girl Scout Troop 10134 of the New Oaks Service Unit assisted at the event as well.

"This is just a small way of showing our gratitude," said guidance counselor Kalah Boscia, who coordinated the event. In addition to the RCK community, WCSD was represented by Superintendent Dr. Dwight Bonk, Assistant Superintendent Daren Lolkema and Board of Education members Peggy Kelland, Michelle Johnson, Keith Odums, Michael McFarland and Eddy Sloshower. RCK also welcomed Senator Sue Serino, Wappinger Town Supervisor Dick Thurston, NYS Assemblyman Kieran Lalor and Dutchess County Legislator and RCK alum Joseph Cavaccini.
