RTI is an acronym that stands for Response To Intervention. A student who is struggling academically may receive additional
instructional support based on their individual needs and area(s) of difficulty.
RTI is a multi-tiered approach to meeting a student's needs that is overseen by the RTI Committee. This committee at Fishkill Elementary School is comprised of the following individuals: Principal, Classroom Teacher, AIS Teacher, Reading Teacher, School Psychologist, Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist. Each tier of RTI
allows a student to receive a different level and intensity of support
to
adequately meet his or her educational needs. As the tiers increase from
Tier 1
to Tier 3, the level of instruction intensifies. Tier 1 support may comprise simply of accommodations and modifications within the classroom setting. Tier 2 instruction occurs
within
a small group setting, focusing on designated skills. If the student does not
make adequate progress within a small group, more frequent services or
individualized daily instruction (Tier 3) may be warranted. If the student does not
make sufficient improvement given RTI support(s) for a designated period of time, a referral to special
education can be made. The Fishkill Elementary RTI Committee is committed to providing differentiated instruction on a continual basis to meet the individual educational needs of each student, and to continually progress monitor student's responses to intervention.
