Roy C. Ketcham Spring Track & Field
As quick a start we had to the season, it came to a halt just as quickly due to the Coronavirus. I am currently prohibited from meeting with you for formal practices. However, don't let this deter you from training. The season is still uncertain, but I would still suggest that you continue to work out until we know any different. Think of the long term, not tomorrow. I am posting your workouts in Google Classroom, so go there for updates. Here are the link and the code:

It's the start of a new season and another year for the RCK Boys Track and Field Team. I have nearly 100 boys currently signed up! That is a record for me, and perhaps RCK as a whole. The start of the season is right around the corner, so here are a few documents that you may find of importance.
1. My Philosophy: This document covers my expectations for all athletes on the team. My Philosophy & Expectations
2. Goal Setting Form: Goals
We will be having a pre-season meeting in the cafeteria on March 3rd at 2:30. Plan on running when the meeting is over. I will be going over my expectations for each and every athlete. I am looking forward to the season ahead of us with great optimism. GO INDIANS!
As some of you may know, I have started using Remind with my athletes and parents. If you are one who is not yet on the list, send a text to 81010. Then in the body of the text, type @rckt.
Ayden Virgo started out the State Meet with the 100m dash where he won his heat and qualified second leading into Saturday's final for Division 1 athletes. Unfortunately, he injured his heel at the end of his qualifying run and was unable to contend for the tilte the next day. His heel injury also caused him to fail in the high jump. Fortunately, he still has a year left to his high school career.
At the State Qualifier on May 30 and 31, there were some excellent performances, including a pair of 2nd place finishes which propelled Ayden Virgo to the State Meet in Middletown. Tony Burgos came up just short in the 200m dash where he finished second, but failed to hit the State standard by a mere 0.10 seconds. Tony also finished a very respectable 4th in both the 100m dash and the long jump. Both pole vaulters performed admirably where Jason McDonough finished 3rd with a clearance of 13 feet, 6 inches, and Charlie Hatzmann finished 4th with a clearance of 13 feet. Jyaire finished 9th in the shot put and freshman standout Nick Castorina ran a gutsy 2:02 800m run.
The last couple of weeks have been very exciting for our boys track and field program. We placed a very respectable 3rd at the Northern Counties meet on Saturday, May 17th. Many many athletes achieved their personal bests and qualified for the Class A meet the following Thursday. The Class A performances were equally impressive even if the times were not as fast as the week before (strong head wind). Nevertheless, Roy C. Ketcham scored more points in thiis meet than any meet over at least the last 10 - 15 years, and finished 4th overall! Tony Burgos scored most of our points, placing 2nd in both the 100m dash and the long jump, and also placing 3rd in 200m dash. Ayden Virgo placed 2nd in the high jump with an official record tying clearance of 6 feet, 4 inches. He also finished 4th and 6th in the 100m and 200m dashes. These two boys combined with Landon Snead and Jyaire Stevens to finish 5th in the 4x100m relay. Because of an equipment issue, the pole vault was moved to Pearl River on Friday where Jason McDonough finished 3rd and Charlie Hatzmann placed 4th with clearances of 13 feet, 6 inches and 13 feet, respectively.

Some notable performances have been achieve this season, none more prominent than Ayden Virgo's high jump clearane of 6 feet, 4 inches at our duel meet against John Jay, thus tying a school record that has stood since 1975! He subsequently met the state standard at the Green Dragon Relays where he cleared 6 feet 2 inches. Below you will find attached the performances from each of our meets thus far this season. If possible, I have included splits.
