• The purpose of homework is to:

    -enhance and improve student achievement

    -practice newly taught skills

-reinforce lessons learned in the classroom

    -review previously mastered skills

-be able to complete the work independently with moderate assistance

-help a student understand where they need to ask for further clarification from a teacher

-differentiate based on student needs, when applicable

    -develop independent study habits

-to serve as information to the teacher to provide additional support to the student

    -develop prior knowledge

-cultivate self-organization and time management skills

    WCSD does not believe:

    - introduce new materials that require assistance other than preparing for future lessons

-be punitive in scope (as punishment/discipline)

-be intended to impede student success

-include other supplies and resources that are not accessible to the student for home utilization

**Students who do not complete their homework assignments on time must be addressed and supported by teachers, support staff, administrators, and/or parents to help students become responsible WCSD citizens. A zero grade will not be given for work submitted. Addressing the lateness, lack of completion, or disregard of homework assignments is reflected in homework regulation.**
