    I wanted to share a few quick updates about what has been happening at Kinry to get us all ready for the start of the year.

    First, our school building has been completely cleaned and sanitized multiple times since we were forced to close our school doors in March. Our custodial crew has done deep cleaning of windows and air vents making sure we have applied all the protocols that the district has put in place. Additionally our custodial staff has been able to use this time to paint and beautify parts of our school they wouldn’t otherwise have had the time to. The building really looks great.

    Next week our teachers will be able to retrieve items from the classrooms that they will need to have with them once we begin remote instruction in September.

    Since I have started my work as Principal here at Kinry I have been focused on reviewing the school safety plans and meeting with our local police department school officer to review how we will conduct safety drills with social distancing guidelines in place. After reviewing our plans I feel very confident in our staffs understanding of safety protocols and our ability to create as safe a learning environment as possible.

    As we all know we are beginning the year with remote instruction, however making sure the building is ready once our hybrid plan phases in is an area I am keenly focused on. To that end we have been reviewing rosters to make sure each home room can meet the district expectations of approximately half the students per cohort divided alphabetically.
    The work that accompanies that is making sure that the classroom environments have the right student furniture and materials in them so that teaching and learning can be done both rigorously and safely.

    I understand completely that there are still many lingering questions and concerns about the start of the year. I feel very confident in our district’s planning and in the Kinry faculty and staff to make this year not just unique but a unique success.
